Capitol commission reelects Bill Candler as chair; Joan Bauer elected vice chair

The Michigan State Capitol Commission reelected Bill Candler as chair and elected Commissioner Joan Bauer as vice chair during its Jan. 27 meeting, the commission announced.
The vote followed a roll call required under the commission’s rules for officer elections at the first meeting of a two‑year session. Commissioner John Bowman nominated Bill Candler for chair; five members voting in the roll call approved Candler’s reelection while Candler was marked absent for the vote.
Commissioner Oberlin nominated Joan Bauer for vice chair, with support from Commissioner Hobbs; the roll call again returned five yes votes and Bauer was elected to the post.
Commissioners also approved the commission’s minutes from December after a motion by Commissioner Hobbs, supported by Commissioner Oberlin. The commission set its next meeting for Monday, March 3, at 11 a.m.
"Bill Candler has been reelected as our chair. He's done just a marvelous job," Commissioner Joan Bauer said after the vote, thanking Candler for his time in the volunteer role.
The meeting opened with a five‑member quorum present. The commission adjourned on a motion by Commissioner Hobbs, supported by Commissioner Starr, with an affirmative voice vote.
