Dock replacement update: crane work, ramp and pedestals moving forward; electrical work ongoing

Commissioners heard a progress update on the Dock 2–4 replacement project at the Jan. 29 meeting, where staff and commissioners reported that major structural work is underway and contractors are preparing to install ramps and dock fingers.

The update is important because the dock replacement affects harbor access, electrical service to docks and the timeline for opening berths to tenants and operators.

Staff reported that the crane had moved on-site and that arch and piling work had proceeded; once the arch work is completed, contractors will begin platform work for the ramp down to Dock 2. Fingers for Docks 2 and 3 are next on the schedule, followed by trimming pilings. Electricians are described as redoing an electrical shack and running cables to pedestals; the report said Dock 1 electrical service is restored, Dock 3 pedestals were being set up, and cable runs to Docks 2 and 4 had been completed or pulled through.

Commissioners and staff noted timing uncertainty. One staff speaker said they were optimistic that many tasks would be finished by mid-February but acknowledged contractors have until mid-April under contract. The project manager (Travis, as quoted in the report) said some finishing work would continue after primary installation and that schedule slips remain possible due to weather or equipment issues.

No formal actions were taken; commissioners asked staff to keep the commission informed of schedule changes and to post photos the installers took while on site for reference.
