The Arkansas City Commission voted Jan. 7 to adopt the city's 2025 comprehensive fee schedule and to repeal the prior resolution that established the previous schedule.
Staff explained the adopted schedule adds fees for neglected buildings and demolition abatements under the Neighborhood Services department; it also moves certain environmental services fees into the Neighborhood Services classification and clarifies water meter, sewer and sanitation rates. The adopted schedule includes a forecast of utility rates through 2029 to reduce the need for annual fee updates.
Commission members asked for clarification about what constitutes a "neglected building;" staff said the term is defined in the underlying ordinance adopted in November and that the change applies to both commercial and residential properties. Questions about owner notification procedures elicited a staff response that processes were being developed including work with tax assessor and realtor records to locate owners.
A motion to adopt the 2025 comprehensive fee schedule passed by voice vote.
