The Committee on Parole revoked the parole of Thomas Simmons (DOC #329701) on Jan. 15, 2025, after he pleaded guilty to three alleged violations, the panel said.
The revocation decision came during a remote hearing held at Livingston Parish Jail. Cheryl Renata, chair of the Committee on Parole, read the allegations and recorded Simmons's pleas. The panel found Simmons guilty of: failing to report for intake on Oct. 16, 2024 (condition 1); leaving his approved residence and moving outside the district without permission on Oct. 15, 2024 (condition 2); and moving from an approved residence to an address that had been previously denied and that was within 1,000 feet of a prohibited entity while the victim was under 13 (condition 3). The panel recorded a unanimous vote to revoke parole.
In his statement to the panel, Thomas Simmons said he had not lived in New Orleans previously and described difficulty navigating the Lower Ninth Ward after his release. He said he had limited funds and relied on family and a niece to help pay registration fees. "I stayed in Kalahoe Correctional Center 21 months over my outdate trying to get me an address to go to," Simmons told the panel, and said he had been "stubborn" about asking for help.
Panel member Danny Barra questioned Simmons about the violations and told him he had been released before and knew reporting requirements. After discussion, Renata announced the panel's decision. "Mister Simmons, I also, vote to revoke your parole. You plead guilty to all 3 violations. So today, sir, your parole is being revoked," she said. Sergeant Jennifer Gomez of classifications assisted with the remote proceeding.
Simmons's parole revocation was recorded at the conclusion of the hearing and the panel closed the matter at the Livingston Parish location.
