Monona committee recommends no‑parking signs at eight Madison Metro stops, adds Monday–Friday plaque

The Monona Public Works Committee recommended approval of an ordinance to install no‑parking signs at eight Madison Metro bus stops in the city, and asked staff to add plaques indicating the restriction applies Monday through Friday.

Committee members heard from Dan, a public works staff member, that Madison Metro service in Monona begins March 3 and that poles and Metro signs are already in place. Dan said the signs must be approved by the committee and city council; if approved on Feb. 17, his crew will install the no‑parking signs and the Metro stop signage before service begins.

Members asked whether parking restrictions should be limited to weekdays because some Monona stops are served only Monday through Friday. Committee members agreed it was appropriate to add a small plaque under the standard no‑parking sign noting “Monday–Friday” so weekend parking remains allowed at those locations. The committee’s motion recommended the ordinance with that plaque requirement and passed.

The discussion noted that some locations (Nichols Road was cited) can have parking pressure, but in many cases there is adjacent space where vehicles can park. The committee did not change which locations were included in the ordinance; the packet listed eight stops where curbside parking is currently allowed and would be restricted once the signs are installed.

The item will go to the City Council for second reading on Feb. 17, with the committee’s recommendation and the added weekday plaque language.
