Committee approves bill to designate June as Kentucky History Month

"Senate bill 313... is just a simple little bill. It's a, a 1 line change to say that the month of June shall be Kentucky history month," Wheeler said.
Scott Alvey told the committee the Kentucky Historical Society and other cultural organizations want to use the month to broaden awareness of state history across all 120 counties, to support local history groups and to align programming with upcoming national milestones such as the U.S. semiquincentennial (the 250th anniversary).
Senators moved, seconded and unanimously voted to report the bill favorably. The clerk called the roll; the chair announced the bill "passes with favorable expression." The measure will go to the full Senate for additional consideration.
The committee recorded no opposition testimony in the transcript; supporters emphasized education, tourism and county-level historical programming as expected outcomes if the bill becomes law.
