The Shawnee City Council on Jan. 13 approved a final change order for the Gleason Road bridge and storm drainage improvement project that added roughly $7,000 in final quantities, public works staff said.
Kevin Manning, public works director, described the work as a replacement of a one‑lane bridge just south of 701st Street on Gleason Road with a widened two‑lane roadway that includes pedestrian accommodations. "This item tonight is the final change order for the Gleason Road Bridal project," Manning said, adding the change order was "a little over $7,000" to cover an extension of quantities.
Manning also told the council the project went over budget by about $100,000. He and a council member noted the project was advanced on the capital improvements plan because the crossing was a safety concern and is part of a bus route. A council member thanked staff for accelerating the work and noted the project’s importance to nearby residents and transit riders.
The council approved the final change order by voice vote. Staff listed the contractor as WCI Incorporated under Contract 2023‑042; the item was presented as the project closeout change order for the Gleason Road bridge and associated storm drainage improvements.
Next steps include project closeout and reconciliation of final costs in the city’s capital budget.
