Council approved the appointment of Dan Parker to the Lenexa Arts Council. The council then approved the appointment of John Hanley to the Ward 1 council seat; per the record, the vacancy arose because of the passing of Councilmember Joe Carlin. Jennifer (city staff) administered the oath of office to John Hanley, during which Hanley repeated the oath: “I, John Hanley, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Kansas and faithfully discharge the duties of city council member of the city of Lenexa, Kansas. So help me God.” Mayor Sayers presided over the oath.
Council also approved the draft minutes of the Jan. 7 city council meeting (motion by Craig, second by Courtney) and approved the consent agenda (items 1 through 8) on a voice vote (motion by Chelsea, second by Courtney). The public hearing to consider whether a fire‑damaged structure at 19430 West 80 Seventh Lane should be condemned or ordered repaired or demolished was continued to the Feb. 18, 2025 council meeting at staff’s request.
