Committee advances paid parental leave bill for eligible state employees

Senator England said the bill would allow eligible full-time state employees who have worked a minimum of 12 consecutive months to receive up to two weeks of paid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. The bill limits the leave to one instance within a 12-month period, requires 30 days’ notice to the employing agency where practicable, and requires each state agency or institution to report annually on paid parental leave usage so the program can be monitored.
Committee members offered no recorded opposition and moved that the title was sufficient and that the bill do pass; the motion carried by voice vote.
