Council approves budget amendments including $5.4 million transfer for road projects and acceptance of federal justice grant

Lexington County Council on Jan. 14 approved multiple budget amendments to reflect recent grant awards, donations and a multi-million dollar internal transfer to fund county road projects.
Among the items, the council approved a $5,396,000 appropriation transfer to fund five transportation projects approved by the County Transportation Committee on Dec. 10, 2024: Longs Pond Road three-lane widening, Charter Oak Road three-lane widening, Drier Island Road resurfacing, Pine Glen subdivision rehabilitation, and McCall and McQueen Street rehabilitation.
The council also accepted a Fiscal Year 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) award of $49,880 from the U.S. Department of Justice. The committee recommended, and council approved, an allocation of the award as follows: Magistrate Court Services $5,986 to purchase audiovisual equipment, iPads and monitors; the Sheriff's Department $38,408 to purchase five in-car 800 MHz radios; and SisterCare $5,486 to reimburse a portion of counseling services provided to Lexington County residents.
Other budget items approved included two Library Services and Technology Act tuition-reimbursement awards (one reimbursing 66% or $2,332 for employee Summer Smith and one reimbursing 66% or $2,664 for employee Emily Pruitt), a $6,500 Solid Waste grant from Pamela Pride, and a $1,000 donation to Fire Services from Dixie Pipeline.
Votes on the package of budget amendments were recorded during the meeting and each item was adopted by roll call.
