Greene County commissioners approve PennDOT bridge designs, tax refund and burial allocations; proclaim February Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

The Greene County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 6 approved PennDOT design proposals for Bridge 35 and Bridge 105, authorized a $3,573.64 payment to property owners subject to a tax‑assessment appeal and solicitor review, approved modest burial and headstone allocations for an Army service member, and issued a proclamation recognizing February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.

The action items were moved and seconded during the commissioners’ public meeting and carried by voice votes. County officials said the local match for the bridge design work will come from Act 13 bridge improvement funds, the county program used to support local transportation projects.

“Thank you to the Greene County Board of Commissioners for recognizing February as teen dating violence awareness month,” said Jackie Parker, communications specialist with Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania, after commissioners presented the proclamation. “At DBSSP, we know that education and awareness are key to preventing abuse and fostering healthy relationships.”

Officials noted the tax payment stems from a 2018 tax assessment appeal that had not been paid previously and that the county solicitor must review the payment paperwork before disbursement. Commissioners also said the county will use Act 13 bridge improvement funds as the local match for the two PennDOT design proposals.

The meeting moved into public comment after the agenda items and later adjourned.
