Resident urges council to permit backyard chickens in Reynoldsburg

During the public-comment period, resident Tanya Dexter of Sorrel Court delivered a written petition asking the council to change Reynoldsburg’s regulations to permit backyard chickens in residential areas.
Dexter told the council that chicken ownership is currently prohibited in residential neighborhoods and said many residents nevertheless keep chickens. "My petition is that the regulations regarding chicken ownership in residential areas be changed from being prohibited to being permitted in residential areas," she said.
Council members did not debate or vote on the petition during the meeting. The council president invited community comments and outlined the public-comment procedures; no staff report or ordinance regarding backyard chickens was introduced at this session. Dexter asked that the issue be addressed promptly before the spring season.
