Council President Christian Jaros and Ward 4 councilman Gregory Cosgrove were sworn into office at the Euclid City Council meeting on Jan. 6, 2025, and the council passed an emergency ordinance naming John M. Watilla president pro tem for the 2025 term.
Jaros took the oath administered at the start of the meeting and thanked his colleagues for their support. “I really wanna thank my colleagues on council for placing their faith in me, to help shepherd these meetings over the next year,” Council President Christian Jaros said after the oath. He also thanked his family for their support.
The council announced that Council President Jaros’s move into the presidency left a Ward 4 seat vacant. The council said it conducted a public application process and selected Gregory Cosgrove to fill that Ward 4 seat. Gregory Cosgrove was sworn in during the meeting and also thanked council and family members who attended.
After those oaths, council considered Ordinance 1-20-25, an emergency ordinance amending the council’s standing rules to establish a president pro tem for the 2025 term and naming John M. Watilla to that post. Law Director Cooney explained the pro tem serves when the council president is unavailable and that the appointment covers the calendar term through Dec. 31, 2025. Council moved to suspend the rules and vote; the ordinance passed on roll call.
The new leadership takes effect immediately. Council members and staff said they expect Jaros, the appointee Cosgrove, and President Pro Tem Watilla to carry council business through the year.
Looking ahead, council members said they plan to continue the regular committee and public meeting schedule and will provide additional procedural details about appointments and committee assignments at future meetings.
