Subcommittee backs Georgia joining interstate compact for school psychologists

Representative Ballard presented House Bill 81 (LC610036), a bill to enter Georgia into the Interstate Compact for School Psychologists. Ballard said the compact, developed with the Council of State Governments, the Department of Defense and the National Association of School Psychologists, reduces certification barriers so practitioners licensed in one member state can practice in others while ensuring minimum qualifications.
Margaret Ciccarelli (PAGE) and Rachel Greenlee, president of the Georgia Association of School Psychologists, supported the measure. Greenlee described school psychologists as among the most highly trained practitioners in schools, noting “school psychologists have the highest entry level requirement into public education” and said reducing portability barriers would help place practitioners more quickly to serve student mental-health and school-safety needs.
A motion to give the bill a due-pass designation was approved by voice vote and the bill will move to full committee.
