Subcommittee approves interstate compact to ease license portability for school psychologists

Margaret Ciccarelli of PAGE and Rachel Greenlee, president of the Georgia Association of School Psychologists, testified in support. Greenlee said license portability would help get practitioners into schools faster and assist military families who move across states. “We need to get them on the ground and serving our kids as quickly as possible,” Greenlee said, and added that school psychologists often hold specialist degrees and play a role in supporting literacy and special‑education needs.
A committee member asked how many states had enacted or introduced similar measures; the sponsor said West Virginia, Colorado, Nebraska and New Jersey had either joined or had legislation this session. The committee approved HB81 by voice vote.
Why it matters: Supporters said portability will expand the pool of qualified school psychologists available to serve student mental-health and assessment needs.
