The Gulfport City Council approved a contract award for repairs to the Milner pier, moving the project toward construction after delays following Hurricane Zeta.
City staff said the contractor will handle repair work on both the Libby Milner Pier and another pier (King Combs) and that the city plans to issue notices to proceed once the contract is signed. A staff member told council the city has obtained most FEMA funds for the project and is “probably sitting around 80% of that.” During discussion a figure of $6,657,000 was mentioned in relation to the project funding.
Council members asked about the contractor’s prior performance and the design choice for “flow-through” boards on the repaired pier surface; staff confirmed the bid includes those materials and the contractor’s experience with similar work.
The council voted to approve the award; the motion carried by voice vote.
