Turkey Trot proceeds provide $20,886.57 to Eagle View Adult Center, council hears

City staff and volunteers on Jan. 21 presented a $20,886.57 donation from the 40th annual Turkey Trot to representatives of the Eagle View Adult Center.
Assistant Director of Recreation Services Carlene Watts said the Nov. 23 event set a new participation record with 293 entrants and that more than 70 volunteers and 18 community partners supported the race. “We celebrated and hosted our fortieth annual turkey trot event on November 23. We set a new participation record, with 293 guests there,” Watts said. She introduced Eagle View Adult Center staff and board members to accept the donation.
Sue Corbett, manager of Eagle View Adult Center, described uses of prior donations and how the center allocates funds to health-related services. Corbett said the senior advisory board had used donated funds to pay a portion of foot care through a Visiting Nurse Association partnership (amount cited in the meeting as $4,000) and contributed funds to mental-health programming; she also described a partnership with Via for door-to-door transit and said a new van purchase supports their trip program. Corbett emphasized the center’s focus on health and access for older residents.
The presentation included a brief photo opportunity with Mayor Pro Tem and council. There was no formal council vote recorded on the donation during the meeting record; staff presented the donation and the center accepted it during ceremonies.
