During the Jan. 27 public comment session at the Denver City Council meeting, several speakers offered a range of local service and community suggestions including neighborhood information distribution, bus-stop improvements, solar energy deployment, and adult education programs.
Aaron Smith suggested expanding neighborhood outreach by distributing printed materials through Human Services or other city channels to advertise rental-assistance, 311, and local resources. He also urged improvements to downtown Broadway—power washing, removing old signs, and adding trash cans—and to bus stops, proposing waiting shelters with charging stations and “rest stop” amenities where riders can wait in inclement weather.
Smith also suggested trade-program vouchers or outreach to 11th and 12th graders about postsecondary options.
Ashley Garrett urged broader use of solar power to address climate and energy needs, framing it as a planetary and economic priority.
Roderick Marshall promoted the Excel Center, an adult education program, inviting council members and residents to attend and noting a graduation ceremony in June. He described the program as serving students who are returning to complete their high-school diplomas.
Speakers’ remarks were delivered during the general public comment period; council members did not respond on the dais but may follow up after the meeting.
