At the start of the docket a parent appeared and asked the court to change the surnames of two minor children.
The petitioner told the court she had filed two separate petitions: one seeking to change her daughter’s name (Fiona Jane Kennedy) to Whittier and another to correct the spelling of her son’s last name (Kyren — to be Kyren Blaze Whittier). The petitioner said the daughter’s birth certificate had been legally corrected in Cheatham County and she wished the child’s surname to reflect the familial name. The petitioner said neither name change was being sought to evade creditors or criminal prosecution; the judge asked whether the petitioner had prepared an order. The petitioner said the form contained the wrong judge name; the judge directed her to leave a corrected order with the clerk so the judge could sign it and the clerk would notify the filer when copies were available.
No formal objection or additional testimony was recorded; the clerk was instructed to accept the corrected order for signature and issuance once the judge signs it.
