Mayor Craig Ford announced a Braves Country youth baseball camp to be held Saturday at Gadsden City High School, saying the city is partnering with the high school baseball program and expects former Braves players to participate.
“Please look on the website. ... we already have over 50 kids,” Mayor Craig Ford said, urging parents to sign up because spots are limited. He described Braves Country as a growing program that is “competing with” established youth leagues and said Gadsden City has recently moved its city baseball program into Braves Country.
Ford said Braves Country is in its third or fourth year statewide and that Gadsden is one of only a few leagues in Alabama to adopt it. He encouraged interested families to contact Parks and Recreation for the flyer and registration details; the mayor did not state the camp start time or registration deadline in his remarks.
The announcement was made during the mayor’s minute; no formal council action or funding allocation related to the camp was recorded in the meeting transcript.
