Parks staff recommends Centennial Trail, Old Town Pocket Park and Heritage Prairie Park names; council to consider resolution Feb. 17

Parks and Recreation staff presented naming and dedication recommendations for three Lewisville park and trail projects and said they will bring a resolution to council on Feb. 17.
Staff recommended naming the Timber Creek Trail Extension the "Centennial Trail" to commemorate the city's centennial at an anticipated groundbreaking in spring or summer. Staff said the extension will connect Central Park east to Corporate Drive and help meet the city's goal of providing a 10-minute walk to a park for more residents.
The second recommendation is to designate a small parcel next to Sullivan's Barbecue as "Old Town Pocket Park." Staff said the parcel was dedicated to the city when the Veil Street apartments were developed; Sullivan's will assist with facade improvements and supplemental maintenance while city crews will continue to provide primary maintenance.
The third recommendation is to name land in the northern gateway area the "Heritage Prairie Park and Trail," part of the Nora and Heritage Trails development and the Koitale vision plan. Staff said portions of trails and functional park space are already in use and that the city maintains or plans to maintain the areas.
Parks staff said the Park Board reviewed the recommendations at its January meeting and voted to endorse them. City staff will present a resolution with the three naming recommendations to the council at its Feb. 17 meeting for formal action.
