Tyler ISD outlines competitive academics schedule; students advance to state events

Tyler ISD staff told the Board of Trustees that district students qualified for a range of competitive academic events and that the district will host regional contests in the spring.
The competitive-academics update listed recent and upcoming qualifiers: two debate students qualified for state from Legacy; 17 Tyler High students qualified for TSA state contests; 17 students qualified for FBLA state contests; three DECA qualifiers from Tyler High and three from Tyler Legacy; and several CTSO programs progressed through district and regional rounds. Staff said the district will host a regional HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) event that will bring roughly 1,800 students from the DFW area and East Texas.
Staff encouraged trustees to attend middle-school and regional meets and noted the activities provide leadership, confidence and college-career exposure for students. Trustees commented on the positive student experiences, and staff said they will provide follow-up reports after the state competitions.
