In public comment, the county recorder and other elected-office staff described a year-end effort that preserved substantial tax revenue for Boone County.
The recorder said a 69-page deed involving about 40 parcels arrived near the end of the business year and that coordinated action by the recorder, auditor, treasurer and clerk’s offices — including extended hours and manual verification of sales disclosures — allowed the paperwork to be recorded electronically via Simplifile and prevented a potential tax-exemption outcome.
Why it matters: if the deed and associated sales disclosures had failed to record before the new year and the entity had qualified as a not-for-profit, the county could have lost tax revenue on roughly 40 parcels. The recorder and other office staff worked into the evening to verify each parcel and ensure recording was completed, the speaker said.
Council members publicly thanked the recorder, auditor, treasurer and surveyor staff and praised the interoffice cooperation required to finalize the filings and preserve county tax dollars.
