The South Dakota House of Representatives on Feb. 7 concurred in Senate Concurrent Resolution 601 to designate a portion of U.S. Highway 12 between Groton and Interstate 29 as the Helen Miller Memorial Highway. Representative Muckey introduced the measure and described Miller's long advocacy for the four-laning and safety improvements on the corridor; he said she did not live to see the finished project but worked for it until her death.
Representative Muckey noted that signage for the highway will be posted by the Department of Transportation and said, to his knowledge, payment for signage has been covered. The motion to concur was adopted, the clerk reported the vote as 67 ayes with 2 excused, and the resolution was declared adopted by the House.
