County administrator: Lake County Sheriff’s Office project moves into site work, foundation work starting in March

County administrator Jason Boyd said construction on the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is progressing and will move into concentrated site work and foundation stages over the next month.

"The site civil work is well underway," said Jason Boyd, county administrator. He told commissioners the contractor completed stormwater connections along Jackson Street, prepared the building pad with gravel and fill, and plans to install haul roads and begin aggregate piers — a foundational work — within two weeks. Boyd said above‑grade construction is expected to begin in March.

Boyd said the project has used three weather days of the 27 allowed in the contract and that, after recent budget discussions about long‑lead items, the overall numbers are “trending positively.” He said the county expects to have a clearer guaranteed maximum price (GMP) position by late spring or early summer.

The administrator also noted federal engagement around funding for technology in the facility: a commissioner said Congressman Dave Joyce has worked to earmark funds for jail technology and that support from federal lawmakers would be appreciated for the Lake County Safety Center.

No formal decisions or additional funding approvals were made at the meeting; the update was provided as an operational status report.
