North Bend resident asks council to add west-facing curb ramp at Riverside–Orchard corner

At the Feb. 4 City Council meeting a North Bend resident asked the council to modify curb ramps at the Riverside and Orchard Street corner so pedestrians can cross directly west toward the park.
Jeff King, who gave his address as 466 Meadow Drive SE, said the corner currently has a single curb ramp that faces north. Because Orchard Street lacks sidewalks, pedestrians walking west toward the park must detour north and then cross later, a route King said is hazardous for schoolchildren and other pedestrians waiting for a bus.
King told council the corner “needs to have like two ramps — one that goes west and one that goes north.” He asked the city to reconstruct the curb so pedestrians can safely cross toward the park and avoid stepping up into the street to reach the bus. The council did not take action on the request at the meeting; staff did not provide a timeline or funding source during the public comment period.
The council invited members of the public to raise non-agenda items during the meeting’s citizen comment period; King’s remarks were heard during that segment.
