A World Energy representative updated the City Council on upcoming safety and maintenance activities at the plant and said the company will engage nearby residents before the work begins.
Adrian Landa, government and community relations for World Energy, told the council the facility will hold a planned, joint fire‑department drill on Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. He said fire trucks and first responders will participate and that the drill is a routine, coordinated exercise to test evacuation and emergency procedures.
Landa also said the plant will undergo a scheduled turnaround — an operational shutdown to perform upgrades and maintenance — from Feb. 28 through Mar. 30. He said World Energy is working to minimize disruptions and will canvass adjacent neighbors with fact sheets about the turnaround, operations and a 24/7 community helpline for questions at (562) 531‑2060. Landa said the company had drafted social‑media posts to notify the community in advance and would share those posts with City staff.
Council members asked whether World Energy would proactively alert residents if multiple fire trucks or other emergency apparatus respond during the drill; Landa said the company had prepared social‑media content and printed fact sheets and would distribute them to neighbors and maintain the helpline during the turnaround.
