Strafford County reports passing life-safety inspections; one malfunctioning strobe found at Riverside

County staff reported that recent mandated life-safety inspections required under NFPA 72 were completed and passed at facilities that house overnight occupants.
Doug (staff member) told the Strafford County Board of Commissioners that the county’s quarterly inspections cover locations where people sleep, including the ALMS House, the county jail and Hyder Hospice House, while the courthouse has an annual inspection because only one person is on site overnight in dispatch. He said the county’s maintenance crew performs monthly preventive maintenance on fire extinguishers, fire panels and detectors, which makes inspections “pretty much a breeze.”
Doug said the preliminary Riverside inspection showed one malfunctioning horn-strobe out of about 400 devices monitored by that building’s fire panel; the jail has more than 700 devices. He told the board he expected the written inspection report to be available later the same day.
Commissioners asked follow-up questions about scheduling and timing; staff said they operate maintenance as if service is coming the next day to avoid lapses. No formal action was taken; the report was informational and staff indicated they will supply the written report to the board.
