Bridal Sikowitz, Riverside Township assessor, told trustees that second-installment property tax bills for the 2024 tax year will be mailed on time and should arrive in early February. Sikowitz said bills will be due March 4.
The assessor said renewal applications for senior exemptions are delayed because the assessor’s office is moving to a new system; the office expects to mail senior renewal forms in mid-to-late February, and Sikowitz anticipated increased phone volume when that mailing goes out.
Sikowitz also described a treasurer-administered program the transcript identified as a senior tax deferral — a loan program administered by the treasurer’s office that can cover up to $7,500 in property taxes. Sikowitz noted the deferral is not the same as a senior freeze; the deferral program has a March 1 deadline in the treasurer’s calendar. The assessor clarified that the senior freeze (legislatively titled the Low Income Senior Citizens Tax Defer) has an income limit of $65,000 for eligibility and that the limit has been unchanged for several years.
Trustees asked no formal questions that changed staff action; clerk and staff said they would post information on the township website and that the Constant Contact message to taxpayers would go out the next day.
