CFISD reports 2019 bond progress: most school renovations complete; remaining projects wrap by 2026

CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Facilities staff presented an update on the 2019 bond program Feb. 6, saying large portions of the bond work are complete and describing scheduled remaining projects.
Jesse Claiborne, assistant superintendent for facilities and construction, told trustees the 2019 bond ($1.762 billion authorization) funded facility renovations and additions, safety-and-security upgrades, technology infrastructure and transportation purchases. He reported all elementary renovations are complete, site security fencing at campuses is finished, and athletic and several new instructional and support facilities are in service. The district has completed high-school athletic conversions to artificial turf at baseball and softball fields and finished new high-school band towers and administrative furniture installs at most campuses.
Claiborne said the program is in design and bidding for phase 6 projects, scheduled to finish by summer 2026. He said all support facilities will be complete by summer 2025 except a Support Services Storage Building, which is slated to finish in 2026. Transportation purchases and police vehicles funded by the bond are complete.
Charles Franklin (Technology Services) provided the bond-funded technology update: network switch replacements across campus closets, network access control (NAC) rollout (four sites in restrict mode), anticipated Windows 11 transition by October 2025, and enterprise electronic-document work that is expected to move into a maintenance phase in 2026.
Board members asked about facility-assessment work being done to identify future capital needs; Claiborne said the department is conducting districtwide assessments (96 instructional campuses and 36 support buildings) to identify critical-infrastructure needs and asset-replacement cycles and will present results at a future meeting.
No board action was taken; the update was informational and staff will return with results of facility assessments and a timeline for remaining projects.
