A resident told the Los Banos City Council during public comment that playing pickleball transformed their health and daily life and urged the city to support local courts.
“Pickleball is my lifeline,” the resident said, describing past mobility problems: “My past health journey has been painful and difficult with mobility, difficult walking, driving, standing up, and getting out of bed at night to go to the restroom. Osteoarthritis started after 50 years old. All my fingers and my knees were affected.”
The speaker said they now take fitness classes and play daily, sometimes wearing a brace, and described older players in the Los Banos pickleball community who are “20 years younger” in appearance and act as role models. The commenter referenced academic research on the mental-health benefits of exercise and sleep and encouraged others to join the sport for its social and physical benefits.
An emailed public comment from Kathy Pawn, who said she lived in Los Banos for 17 years, also endorsed building a proposed pickleball court near Crest Hills and emphasized accessibility. “The city will absolutely provide accessibility to our community for recreation and more when they build the proposed pickleball court near Crest Hills,” Pawn wrote, and described the sport as “kind, friendly, inviting.”
Both commenters addressed the council during the public-comment portion of the meeting. No formal council action on the proposed court was recorded in the public-comment remarks.
