Davis County students highlight symphony chorus concert, say they will perform at UMEA in St. George

Students who identified themselves as part of a combined choir, band and orchestra described a symphony chorus concert they said will be performed “tonight” and “on Friday,” and said the ensemble will travel to St. George to perform at UMEA.

The students emphasized collaboration across musical sections. “Alto, tenor, soprano, bass, so we've got every part. Not to mention we also have band and orchestra,” said Student (Speaker 4). “The way that you work with each other is extremely important to how we are going to perform in tonight and on Friday.”

A different student described the conference appearance: “It's, like a conference for all the music educators in the state, and we're just gonna be, like, a featured performer there,” said Student (Speaker 6). Speakers said the trip and performances are opportunities to show how separate school music programs can work together as an ensemble.

Students also described the educational and social benefits of ensemble music. “You learn so much from being in music. You learn how to work in a group, and you learn how to work with other people,” said Student (Speaker 2). Another student noted the experience of combining voices and instruments: “If my voice wasn't here, it wouldn't sound the same,” said Student (Speaker 5), who added that “all 66 players… they are needed for this.”
