Auditorium steel rises; district investigating burst HVAC coil that affected new tech room

The board’s capital projects chair said steel for the auditorium is in and the project has moved into phase 2 of erection. Dan (district administration) told the board the district remains on track for an auditorium completion target in January or February 2026. He said the construction manager, architects and independent contractors are studying recent problems after “a coil freeze up in one of our rooms” that affected a new tech room across from two new middle school STEM rooms.
Student ex officio member Donna raised complaints about inconsistent heating and cooling, saying some classrooms are cold during the school day and get very hot in the summer. Donna also said some gym classes use stick hockey and students reported splinters and occasional contact injuries; the board noted that contact sports should be restricted to school teams and that PE staff will be contacted.
District staff described insulation shortfalls in a front hallway near the old auditorium that have caused drafts; they said the work originally called for more insulation in that area and the facilities team is reviewing the issue. The administration said work scheduled later in the capital program will add air‑conditioning coils to high‑school second‑floor units and that a future capital project would address similar second‑floor systems at the middle school to add cooling where needed. The administration acknowledged the cost of adding coils and described the work as expensive but appropriate when systems are turned over.
The board requested further investigation and follow‑up reports once the facilities team determines fault and scope of repairs. Staff asked teachers to relocate classes when individual rooms are cold until the cause is determined.
