Apple Harvest Festival seeks county support as attendance and costs rise

Susan Snowden, president of the Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival, told commissioners the festival is rebuilding operations, seeking financial help for signage and event support and continuing efforts to attract celebrity speakers and sponsors.
Snowden outlined attendance and event structure, describing free meet-and-greets and ticketed headline events. She said some events draw thousands of visitors and that signage and banners that guide visitors to the fairgrounds need replacing. “Probable need to upgrade our signage. Probably need to upgrade our banners that we line now up and down all the streets,” she said.
Snowden described the festival’s volunteer and sponsorship model and said the organization lacks an executive director and relies on board members to run individual events. She noted the festival has hosted well-known sports figures and other celebrities for appearances and said the group needs an appropriately sized venue to host paid speaking events without incurring high rental costs.
Snowden requested county assistance with event grants and thanked commissioners for past support; she said the festival will continue to seek sponsors and community partnerships to sustain operations. No county appropriation was made at the meeting; commissioners welcomed the update and offered to assist as grant cycles allow.
