Council reviews ordinance to establish no-parking zones at eight Metro Transit stops on Route 38

Public Works Director Dan presented a first reading on Feb. 3 of Ordinance 2-25-787 to establish bus-stop no-parking zones at eight locations on Metro Transit Route 38 that currently have parking lanes.
Dan said his crew installed sign poles ahead of a March 3 start date to avoid digging in frozen ground. The ordinance packet lists the eight locations and includes an image of the new sign that reads "Bus stop. No parking here to corner." The signs will be installed on the new poles and staff said they will also remove existing older Monona Transit signs, including one by the library.
Council members asked about related infrastructure such as concrete pads and sidewalks. Dan said the capital budget includes $50,000 this year for concrete work to install pads and some sidewalk improvements; that work is a separate project and not part of this ordinance. He and staff said they are pursuing grant opportunities and will bid the concrete work when an engineer is available. That construction could begin in 2025 but might carry into 2026 depending on grant timing and bidding.
The ordinance was presented for first reading and public information; no vote was taken on Feb. 3.
