Mineola board approves change orders and engineering work for water system projects

The Village of Mineola Board of Trustees approved several contract change orders and professional services related to water-system work and operations.
Officials authorized D&B Engineers & Architects to prepare the 2024 annual water-quality report for $7,700, funded from the 2024–25 Water Fund budget or reserves. The board also approved travel for the superintendent of public works and the water plant operations supervisor to attend the American Water Works Association New York Section conference in Saratoga Springs from April 14–17 at an approximate cost of $2,000; funding was listed as the 2024–25 Water Fund budget.
Trustees approved change orders 4 through 6 for general construction on the PFAS treatment project at Well 4, listing combined change-order costs of $35,850.07. The board also approved change order number 6 for the plumbing contract at Well 4, a $9,847.50 replacement of the well blow-off valve performed by Benson Contracting, with the sponsor saying the cost came from the plumbing contract allowance and did not change the total plumbing contract amount.
For Well 1 Phase 2 PTAS treatment, the board approved change orders to add steel spacers behind lintels and to change a tie rod to stainless steel at a cost of $2,195.85 (contractor WHM Plumbing & Heating); the trustees also approved a credit of $21,185.85 to substitute galvanized steel for stainless in certain structures, reducing that contract by the credited amount to a new contract value stated in the agenda of $2,417,134.15.
Officials said the change orders drew on contract allowances and therefore did not change the overall general-construction contract price. Trustees moved and seconded the motions (movers included Deputy Mayor Sartori and Trustee Clark, seconds commonly from Trustee Soloski), and the board recorded the motions as carrying unanimously in open session.
During the discussion staff said testing and remaining work on the Well 4 project are ongoing and that commissioning and testing will determine when the well returns to service. No specific in-service date was given during the meeting.
