Rep. Matt Duffield, R‑District 53, told the City, County & Local Affairs Committee his bill would add seven days to the annual period during which fireworks may be sold, allowing local governments more flexibility to stage fireworks displays tied to events.
“Our city council brought this bill to me. We have several events that happened throughout Pope County, and they wanted to have a fireworks display with that,” Duffield said. He described the measure as moving the sales date by one week earlier and extending the sale date by one week later, and added, “I don't see any cons to this bill. In my opinion. Only pros for each of your districts as well.”
No members of the public registered opposition and no committee questions are recorded in the transcript. A motion that the bill “do pass” carried on a voice vote; the chair declared the bill passed and Duffield thanked the committee.
