Owensboro City commissioners on Jan. 7 administered oaths of office to the mayor and commissioners, elected Commissioner Bob Glenn as mayor pro tem and approved several board and personnel appointments, the commission said.
The actions came during the commission’s regular organizational meeting, where City Manager Nate Pagan explained the selection process for mayor pro tem and commissioners handled routine minutes and appointment votes.
Pagan told the commission that “state law dictates that the board of commissioners include a mayor and four commissioners” and that one of the four must be designated to serve as mayor pro tem and act for the mayor when needed. Mayor Tom Watson nominated Commissioner Bob Glenn for the post; a second was recorded and the nomination carried by voice vote. After the vote, Glenn thanked the commission: “Thank you for the support of the community, and it’s an exciting opportunity to move our community forward for another two years.”
The commission approved the minutes of the Dec. 17, 2024, meeting by voice vote. It also approved the following board appointments in a single motion: Angela Waniger to a four‑year term on the City Employees Pension Board effective January 2025; Steven Egelhart to a three‑year term on the Civil Service Commission effective Jan. 16, 2025; Kelsey Sadler to a two‑year term with the Dogwood‑Azalea Neighborhood Alliance effective Jan. 7, 2025; and Alicia Storm to serve as the mayor’s designee to the Housing Authority of Owensboro to a four‑year term expiring in December (year not specified in the meeting record).
City Manager items approved by the commission included two personnel actions: the probationary, full‑time, non‑civil‑service appointment of Christopher Garlic as a bus driver with the Transit Department effective Jan. 13, 2025, and the probationary, full‑time, non‑civil‑service promotional appointment of Aaron Brown to crew leader with the Street Department effective Jan. 12, 2025.
Following the formal business, several commissioners offered brief remarks recognizing staff, first responders and community events mentioned during remarks. The meeting concluded with the mayor’s adjournment of the session.
