The Board of Commissioners voted to suspend its rules and approve a contract with the accounting firm Thompson, Bryce, Scott & Adams to continue work on the county’s FY2023 audit and to begin FY2024 audit work.
County staff said the firm is already beginning earnest work on the FY2023 audit. The manager and finance staff advised the board that the county does not currently have sufficient budgeted funds in the current fiscal year to cover both outstanding FY2023 audit fees and the FY2024 audit work; the manager said a budget amendment of roughly $85,000 will be brought to the board at its Feb. 17 meeting if the board chooses to proceed.
A motion to suspend the board’s normal rules to allow immediate contract approval passed by voice vote (recorded as “aye” in the minutes). A subsequent motion to approve the contract with Thompson, Bryce, Scott & Adams also carried; the board chair called the vote and announced the motion carried.
Why it matters: County staff said having the same auditors under contract to begin FY2024 work while completing the FY2023 audit should help accelerate timely completion of both audits. Commissioners asked for the next audit‑timeline estimate and the manager said staff would provide an updated schedule at the Feb. 17 meeting.
