Board outlines Phase 2 redistricting process; superintendent to produce recommendation after public input

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education outlined the Phase 2 redistricting process at its Feb. 5, 2025 meeting, saying the superintendent’s office, with consultant WXY, will develop scenarios and then solicit public input before the superintendent makes a formal recommendation to the board in July.
President Silkworth told the room the scenarios prepared by the private consultant are “just that — scenarios” and not board recommendations. He said the superintendent may amend scenarios based on community feedback or other factors, and the board will not be directly involved in planning until the superintendent issues a recommendation in July.
A web tool is available at www.aacpsredistricting.org for the public to view scenarios and leave comments; the board asked the public to submit input by May. The board said it will select one or more options the superintendent forwards for a public briefing and hearings, which are scheduled to be held in September and February (year not further specified during the meeting).
The board also thanked district staff for a Feb. 27 redistricting workshop and noted that Phase 1 adjustments had already been altered after community feedback. The president emphasized collaboration with the superintendent’s staff and urged residents to use the web tool to help shape any recommended plans.
No formal vote occurred on redistricting at the meeting; the remarks summarized a process timeline and public participation opportunities and stressed that the superintendent will lead scenario development and recommendation.
