Glynn County Schools will convert three scheduled teacher workdays into student instructional days to recover time lost to inclement-weather closures during the 2024–25 school year, staff told the board on Feb. 6.
Miss Senitra Haywood said the district has missed eight days so far this school year because of weather. To maximize instructional time within the district’s strategic plan parameters, the district will change three previously scheduled holidays — two dates in February and March 10 as presented — into student attendance days. Staff said one earlier makeup day in November already had been converted, and with the three changes the district will reduce the number of missed days to five.
Haywood noted the district calendars are built on 178 days rather than a 180-day standard, and that administrators aim to preserve as many instructional days as possible. Board members asked about other contingency options, including extending spring break or adding Saturday sessions, which a board member suggested as alternatives if additional makeups are needed.
