The district's ACES team described a K–5 health education presentation that covered healthy habits and harmful substances, and announced a pilot that will allow students to participate in afternoon announcements; 87 students indicated interest.
The ACES presentation to K–5 students covered nutrition, sufficient sleep, regular physical activity, differences between medication and drugs, misuse versus abuse, nicotine, alcohol and caffeine, and decision-making and refusal skills for resisting peer pressure, according to the ACES representative.
Separately, the team described a new pilot in which students can participate in afternoon announcements through what staff called a “full box” offering; the meeting transcript recorded that 87 students showed interest in taking part. The ACES representative said the pilot is intended to give students public-speaking experience and that students will collaborate and share short items such as fun facts, shout-outs, trivia questions or favorite quotes on the announcements.
Staff did not present a formal policy change or vote during the remarks; the pilot and the curriculum presentation were described as part of instructional programming.
