Littlestown Area SD narrows extra math program to sixth graders; invites about 30 students

A staff member said the program shifted because past results showed seventh graders were less likely to attend after-school sessions. The district identified approximately 30 sixth graders for the program and plans a roughly 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio. Three teachers were named as program instructors: Mr. Liberty, Mr. Green and Mr. Lauren; the staff member said two are current sixth-grade math teachers and one is a science teacher who is math-certified.
Selection will exclude students already receiving Tier 3 interventions during the school day; district staff described this program as targeted at students who have historically scored at the “basic” level (not “below basic”) on standardized assessments and who may benefit from additional teacher contact to reach proficiency.
No formal board action was recorded during the remarks; the presentation asked the board to approve the program implementation plan.
