At the Littlestown Area School District board meeting, district staff gave updates on winter athletics, alumni volunteer activity and a planned girls' sports event.
District staff member Michelle summarized recent competitive results and upcoming events, saying district athletes and volunteers have been active across wrestling, competitive cheer and youth programs. "Our very own Tanner Racks won his weight class" at a Central York tournament, Michelle said, and the competitive cheer team placed third on Jan. 5 and later won first place in the small gameday nonpublic category at Cedar Cliff.
The nut graf: The updates underscore the district's reliance on returning athletes and volunteers to staff youth events, bolster school spirit and promote female athletic participation.
Michelle described several items important to community engagement and student experience: alumni returning as paid and volunteer coaches; a recent youth wrestling match organized by alumni; Coach Polashock officiating at a youth tournament; and consistent student participation in supporting roles (for example, high-school players keeping the clock at youth games). She also listed near-term events including a wrestling senior night, a boys-basketball teacher appreciation night, and an upcoming youth night for boys' basketball.
Michelle said the district will hold its third annual National Girls' & Women's Sports Day on Feb. 5; two sponsors have funded event shirts that will be distributed first to preregistered participants. She told the board that a student survey about girls' competitions has been completed and that she will provide a plan of recommendations and an update on girls' competitions at the next board meeting.
The board briefly noted that academic assessment data (PSSA, Future Ready Index and iReady) will be presented to the board at a future meeting, enabling a broader look at student performance alongside athletic participation.
Ending: District staff framed the athletic season as both competitive and community-oriented, with additional reporting to come at the next board meeting on girls' competitions and related student-survey results.
