Tullahoma schools honor building and district Teachers of the Year; foundation awards $1,000 to district winners

Tullahoma City Schools used its first board meeting of the year to recognize building‑level teachers of the year across elementary, middle and high schools and to name district winners who will advance to the South Central Region competition.
Principals and supervisors introduced dozens of honorees. Building‑level winners named at the meeting included Kyle Nagle (Bellaire Elementary), Natalie Damron (East Lincoln Elementary), Courtney Holt (Jack T. Ferra), Clarice Cox (Robert E. Lee novice teacher of the year), Erin Martin (Robert E. Lee building teacher of the year), Jonathan Wood (Tullahoma High School and Tullahoma Virtual Academy), Judy Stewart (THS), Angela Pendergraft (THS and district high‑school teacher of the year), Angela Tennant (East Middle), Jim “Coach D” Daugherty (West Middle), and others across the district.
The board also announced three district winners who will represent Tullahoma in the Tennessee teacher‑of‑the‑year competition: Erin Martin (elementary), Coach D (middle school) and Angela Pendergraft (high school). Jim Woodard and members of the Tullahoma Educational Foundation presented the winners with awards; foundation representatives said the foundation provided $1,000 to each district winner and that the foundation has given $84,600 to teachers in past years and approximately $607,000 back to the school system overall. Foundation speakers also noted last year’s grant totals and a $16,000 donation from alumnus Dustin Lynch that the foundation had received at Christmas.
Superintendents and principals highlighted the honorees’ classroom results, leadership and community work. Speakers repeatedly praised teachers’ instructional approaches — for example, explicit phonics instruction in kindergarten classrooms and science‑center activities — and cited local initiatives including the district’s work‑based learning efforts and a recording arts studio called Last Lab.
No board action was required to recognize the teachers. Foundation members and district leaders asked the board to join in congratulating recipients and to support honorees as they advance to regional and state competitions.
