The Johnston County Board of Education on Feb. 6, 2025, selected Jeff Sullivan to fill the District 7 seat by a 5-1 written ballot vote at a special session.
The vote fills a vacancy on the board after the district followed a selection process the board adopted at a Jan. 21 special meeting. Board members interviewed three applicants earlier in the week before choosing to vote by signed, written ballot under Board Policy 2342 and applicable state law.
Board members moved and seconded a switch to written ballots before discussion. The motion to vote by written ballot was made by Mr. Donovan and seconded by Mr. Carroll and carried by a majority. Ballots were signed and dated, then submitted to district staff for counting; the superintendent’s office will make the ballots available for public inspection immediately following the meeting until the minutes are approved, as required by Board Policy 2342.
After the ballots were counted, the board recorded five votes for Jeff Sullivan and one vote for Miss Chamblee; the board chair announced that Jeff Sullivan would represent District 7. During a brief discussion before voting, several board members thanked the three applicants for applying and said the candidates demonstrated a commitment to students and the community.
There was no further business. A motion to adjourn, moved by Mr. Donovan and seconded by Mr. Carroll, carried, and the meeting ended.
