The Granite Town Media director said the department bought new permanent speakers for the auditorium and plans to test them ahead of the town’s Feb. 1 deliberative session.
Chris Gentry said one of the auditorium speakers was blown and the replacement speakers were purchased from B&H for under $2,500. He said the speakers will be mounted near the stage and the team is adding a monitor speaker behind the town moderator to address a “dead spot” in the back of the room.
Gentry said crews will set up and test audio on the Friday night before the session and again on Tuesday for a full check; he said the goal is to eliminate the back-room dead spot by combining forward- and rear-facing coverage and to keep monitor levels low to avoid feedback.
Members discussed staffing for setup. Gentry asked for Andy’s assistance so that routine site and meeting setup work can be shared and to reduce the 10–15 hours daily he reported spending during the immediate launch period. Mike Thornton noted that some GTM time is funded through general funds rather than the media channel, and the committee agreed the arrangement to shift a small number of hours to Andy would be temporary.
The committee also discussed opportunities to reduce travel and repeated set-ups by installing permanent cameras and by placing one of the team’s older cameras in other municipal rooms; staff noted some locations remain nonoperational and that further installation work is a work in progress.
Gentry said he will monitor the Nov.–Feb. testing and bring an update after the deliberative session.
