Washoe County commissioners, the Truckee Meadows Fire District board and the Reno and Sparks councils on Monday directed city and county managers and fire chiefs to work together to study and develop options for enhanced regional fire response, including shared dispatch systems and policies to enable unrestricted automatic aid.
The decisions follow presentations and discussion on regional emergency management and recent real incidents — including the Davis Fire — that exposed communication, evacuation and mutual-aid friction points across jurisdictional boundaries.
"We're looking for you guys to give me some more information so we can get a bill draft and we'll continue the discussions all the way through," said Senator Skip Daly, who told the meeting he has already filed a bill draft request to enable regionalization discussions at the Nevada Legislature and asked local officials to provide details to shape any legislation.
