Edgewood staff to send edited comment letter on Pierce Transit long‑range plan; council encourages resident input

City staff briefed the Edgewood City Council on Pierce Transit’s long‑range plan and a draft comment letter during the Jan. 21 study session, and the council asked staff to refine the draft before submitting it as the city’s official comments.
Jeremy Metzler, who briefed the council, said the city has been engaged with Pierce Transit staff on elements of the plan for months and that Pierce Transit has posted scenarios for public comment. Metzler said staff supports several elements that would benefit Edgewood and offered the draft letter so councilors could decide whether to attach the city’s name to a formal submission.
Council members suggested small edits to clarify a paragraph that moves between examples. Mayor Olsen and several councilors asked that the section describing how long it takes to travel from Edgewood to Lakewood Town Center be made clearer and that the draft include a bridging sentence before discussing access to neighboring towns. Council member John Pasarowski specifically praised scenarios C and D for proposing fixed routes that would connect Edgewood to nearby employment centers such as Sumner and recommended those options be called out in the city’s comment letter.
Council member Erica Buckley suggested the city notify Edgewood residents — for example by posting a link on the city website or the mayor’s Friday update — so residents may file their own comments during Pierce Transit’s public comment window. Staff said the Pierce Transit plan materials include maps showing two east–west route options (Milton Way/Jovita and Valley Avenue on the city’s south border) and that more detailed cost estimates appear only in the plan appendices; revenues and funding details are expected to be addressed at later stages.
Metzler said he would make the non‑substantive clarifying edits discussed and place the letter on the consent agenda for the regular meeting next Tuesday; councilors may pull it for discussion at that time if they desire. Staff also noted the plan’s appendices contain high‑level ballpark cost ranges but not final revenue allocations.
