County begins Nicollet Park skate-park demolition; Chaptico Park permit work moving forward

Contractor work began this week at Nicollet Park on renovations and a new skate-park component, Recreation and Parks staff said. The county contracted Artists in Skateparks / Pillar Designs to renovate the existing Nicollet skate park and build a new skate area at Chaptico Park; staff said demolition has started at Nicollet and that Chaptico is slightly ahead in the permitting process.
Staff showed the board renderings and diagrams that break down elements of the renovated parks and explained that any black-shaded areas on the plans indicate active construction extents. The Chaptico design is modular and can be expanded in future phases; the community chose the present configuration during public outreach, staff said.
Target completion for both parks is fall 2025, staff said. The department is finalizing stormwater-management comments with reviewers and expects work to move from one site to the next as permits allow. Staff reiterated that the county’s parks are open-at-your-own-risk and that the department does not require payment for skate-park access.
Staff asked the advisory board to consult the Recreation and Parks website for project pages and status updates; they said the home page includes a current-news link to the public input survey for the sports complex and specific project pages for the skate-park renovations.
